Use the right amount

Laundry detergent

Did you know?

Using the right amount of detergent helps protect fibres, prevents residue on the skin and reduces build-up in the washing machine. Concentrated formulas often require less product than you might think.

Dosage de la lessive
No. 1

Follow the recommended dosage based on the size of the load, how soiled it is and the hardness of your water. Too much detergent creates more foam, rinses less effectively and can dull fabrics over time.

No. 2

Pre-treat stains locally with a small amount of detergent or mild soap, then leave it to work for a few minutes. This avoids increasing the dose for the whole load just because of one stained area.

No. 3

Choose a suitable formula for delicate fabrics, without overly harsh ingredients. Concentrated or certified detergents can be a good choice when used sparingly and rinsed thoroughly.

No. 4

Use fabric softener sparingly, especially on performance fabrics, lingerie and knitwear. For softer laundry, focus on an effective rinse and clean the detergent drawer regularly.

Protect the fibres

Washing

Did you know?

Washing less often, but more carefully, helps preserve shape, colour and elasticity. If a garment is neither stained nor odorous, airing it out is often enough before wearing it again.

No. 1

Sort by colour and fabric before starting a wash: dark colours, whites and bright shades do not always react in the same way.

Turn garments inside out, close zips and wash new pieces separately to reduce colour transfer, friction and pilling.

No. 2

Choose a gentle 30°C cycle whenever the level of soiling allows. A moderate temperature protects fibres, uses less energy and is enough for most everyday washing.

No. 3

Use a laundry bag for lingerie, fine knitwear and synthetic fibres. It reduces snagging in the drum and helps limit the release of microfibres.

Spinning

Did you know?

Spinning removes water, but it can also pull on seams, stretch knitwear and mark delicate fabrics. Adjusting the spin speed to the garment genuinely helps it keep its shape for longer.

No. 1

Reduce the spin speed for wool, silk, lace and fine knitwear. A gentle range of around 600 to 800 rpm is often enough to remove excess water without stressing the fabric.

No. 2

Protect delicate pieces in a laundry bag. Lingerie, fine straps and openwork fabrics keep their shape better when they cannot twist around the rest of the load.

No. 3

Maintain your washing machine to keep the spin cycle effective: a clean filter, an aired drum and wiped seals help prevent odours, residue and unnecessarily long cycles.

No. 4

After hand washing, do not wring the garment. Press it gently in a clean terry towel, then reshape it before drying.

Drying

Did you know?

Drying affects how a garment looks just as much as washing. A piece that is hung or laid out properly creases less, keeps its shape better and often needs little or no ironing.

Séchage à l’air libre
No. 1

Dry naturally whenever possible . Sweaters, heavy knitwear and weightier pieces are best dried flat so they do not stretch under their own weight.

No. 2

Hang laundry promptly after washing. Gently shaking each piece before hanging helps reduce creases, damp odours and the need for ironing.

No. 3

If you use a tumble dryer, choose a gentle programme, avoid overloading the drum and remove garments while they are still slightly soft to reduce deep creasing.

No. 4

Add dryer balls to help laundry move more freely. They can shorten drying time, naturally soften fibres and reduce the need for fabric softener.

Wool dryer balls

Form a compact ball from wool, place it inside a knotted pair of tights, then wash it hot to felt the fibres. Once dry, use several balls together in the drum to separate laundry and speed up drying.

A neat finish

Ironing

Did you know?

Good drying, careful folding and a few simple habits often mean you can skip the iron. Reserve high heat for fabrics that can genuinely tolerate it.

No. 1

Iron in the direction of the fabric rather than pressing in heavy circular motions. For delicate materials, work from the inside to reduce shiny marks.

No. 2

Clean the soleplate and descale your iron regularly. Clean steam helps prevent small marks, limescale droplets and deposits on light colours.

No. 3

Use a pressing cloth between the iron and the garment for viscose, fine knitwear, dark fabrics or satin. Always start at a low temperature.

A light ironing spray

Mix filtered water with a very small amount of white vinegar to freshen the steam lightly. Always test on an inconspicuous area and avoid this on fabrics that are sensitive to moisture.

Act quickly

Stain guide

Always test the method on an inconspicuous area before treating the whole surface.

Do not immediately run the stain under water. In some cases, water can spread grease further into the fibres.

  1. Place a clean cloth or a sheet of paper towel over the stain to absorb as much grease as possible.
  2. Sprinkle with Terre de Sommières clay and leave for at least 12 hours.
  3. Remove the powder over a sink, or vacuum it off upholstery fabrics.
  4. Then wash the garment on a suitable programme.

Don't have Terre de Sommières clay?

Rinse the fabric with cold water, apply a small amount of Marseille soap, then rub gently.

Leave for a few minutes before rinsing and washing the garment.

01

Remove pilling

Use a fabric shaver gently to refresh knitwear without damaging it.

02

Repair rather than replace

Repairing a seam, button or hem can significantly extend the life of a garment.
